A one-of-a-kind genetically unknown sibling to a clutch of patternless Columbian Rainbow Boas
This snake is patterned but greatly reduced in contrast and coloration when compared to another normal columbian as seen in the picture below. |
As you can see in the picture she is much lighter in coloration and pattern. As adults columbian are very lightly patterned but in the case of these two columbians the normal male is older and the female was just over a year so should still be nice a darkly colored !!! It will be interesting to see what her babies turn out like.
UGH !!!!! I just had a recent thought about the possible genetics of this animal. She was born in a group of patternless columbian rainbows which are co-dominant and she was the only animal that was half-way in between the normals and the patternless. I'm wondering if the co-dominant patternless gene masks what should be a simple recessive hypomelanistic gene??? Who knows the co-dom patternless gene could actually have the hypomelanistic gene mixed in with the patternless ?? Who knows, most likely not but you never can tell, this is truly the FUN part of working with these animals...as more pattern and color mutations are found everyone will get to have this much fun. STAY TUNED !!
